Requirements for customizing a report layout is:
- Ensure to have installed the required Report Builder solution for your version of NAV/SQL Server.
- Install Report Builder on the workstation from the online downloads for your specific SQL version:
- SQL 2014: https://www.microsoft.com/en-ca/download/details.aspx?id=42301
- Workstation copy of Microsoft Word 2013 or later is installed.
General overview of the process to create a custom layout is:
Step 1 is to create a custom report layout.
Step 2 is to modify the report layout using the custom report tool for RDLC or Word.
Step 3 is to assign the custom report layout via the Report Layout Selections.
Step 4 is to test your report!
Custom Report Layouts
A custom layout is a report layout that you create and modify as needed. A custom layout is typically based on a built-in Word or RDLC report layout. A report can have multiple custom layouts which you can switch among as required. You can use the Custom Report Layouts window to create and modify custom layouts, specify which custom layout is currently used by the report, import/export custom layouts as files, and update custom layouts to changes made to the report's database.

Modifying a Custom Report Layout
From the Microsoft Dynamics NAV Windows client, you can modify a custom layout directly or by exporting and importing the report layout as a file. From the Microsoft Dynamics NAV Web client client, you can only modify a report layout by exporting and importing the report layout as a file.
There two different report layout types: Word report layouts and RDLC report layouts. You modify Word report layouts by using Microsoft Word and RDLC report layouts by using SQL Server Report Builder.
